The Creative Center: Arts in Healthcare has received a 2010 National Endowment for the Arts Grant for The Hospital Artist-In-Residence Training Institute, October 17-22, 2010! Since 2002, The Creative Center: Arts in Healthcare has been training artists from across the US to work in a variety of healthcare settings using the unique training program featured in our book, Artists in Residence: The Creative Center’s Approach to Arts in Healthcare. Our trainings provide both a theoretical and didactic approach to arts in healthcare. Artists, as well as arts and healthcare administrators, are given everything they need to implement and sustain an arts program in a healthcare facility.

Topics will include:


o  Body Systems for Artists


o   The Unique Culture of Hospitals


o   Cultural Diversity and the Arts-in-Healthcare Program


o   Medical and Professional Protocols for Artists


o   The Portable Studio: Process, Projects and Materials Management


o   Best Practices in Artmaking: Visual, Performing and Literary Arts


o   The Artist and the Community


o   Hospice and Palliative Care


o   Looking at and Talking About Art


o  Caring for the Caregiver: Art for families and healthcare staff


o  Patient Perspectives


o  Artists Logs/Reflective Journaling


Lodging for non-NYC residents and some meals included.

Selected trainees will pay $250 registration fee.

Transportation to and from NYC not included.

The Creative Center's Artist-in-Residence Program, brings art to the bedsides of cancer patients, is currently in 20 hospital and hospice sites -- Beth Israel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Beth Israel Medical Center, Brooklyn Hospital Center, Calvary Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Englewood Hospital in New Jersey, Lenox Hill Hospital, Long Island College Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital, New York University Medical Center, North General Hospital, St. Lukes- Roosevelt Hospital, St. Vincents Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Terrence Cardinal Cooke Healthcare Center.
